The place for hands-on collaboration and development of MEF 3.0 Implementation Projects!

MEF is holding its 7th LSO Hackathon at MEF18. It will focus on developing and validating a YANG model for SD-WAN services.

This is a unique opportunity for those involved in the technical aspects of SD-WAN services and products to learn in a hands-on way about the latest SD-WAN and LSO standardization work at MEF, and related API and YANG work at ONF and IETF.

As the MEF completes the industry's first SD-WAN service and attributes specification, many developers of SD-WAN products and services will focus on how to quickly implement this standard and create APIs for orchestrating SD-WANs.

Leading subject matter experts in the areas of SD-WAN service definition, YANG modeling and LSO orchestration at the LSO Presto and LSO Legato reference points are collaborating to create a first version of a YANG model that interprets the MEF specification. This YANG model will be available to developers during the two day LSO Hackathon which is taking place on Monday October 29th and Tuesday October 30th, 2018 at the JW Marriott LA Live in Los Angeles.

During the two day event, developers will have the opportunity to work in small teams both on site and remotely for those unable to travel. The LSO Hackathon is open to all suitable* developers regardless of whether they are employed by a MEF member company. There is no charge for developers to participate.

* Please note that MEF will be accepting registrations at its own discretion only based on the professional background of the developer, and their ability to effectively take advantage of the LSO Hackathon activities.

What is the scope?
SD-WAN service YANG model and associated LSO APIs.

Who is the ideal hackathoner?
Developers that have one or more of the following backgrounds:
  • YANG modelling
  • SD-WAN product development
  • SD-WAN orchestration development
  • SD-WAN service deployment
  • LSO APIs
  • TAPI
  • IETF YANG models

What are the goals?
Each team will focus on one or more of the following goals:

  • Understand the current version of the MEF SD-WAN YANG model
  • Generate APIs at LSO Legato and/or LSO Presto using the YANG model
  • Develop mappings from the resulting LSO Presto API to vendor-specific SD-WAN controller north bound APIs
  • Validate at a basic level the LSO Legato and LSO Presto APIs on MEFnet
What is the format?
Collaborative! The goals are shared and the LSO Hackathon is open to everyone - MEF members and non-MEF members. Most importantly, it is fun and a great learning experience!

How much does it cost?
Nothing!

Do I have to be a MEF member?
No!
However, if your employer is a MEF member, you can access the members-only part of the MEF wiki ahead of the LSO Hackathon, and get advance access to the YANG model and the preparations for the LSO Hackahon.

When and where is it taking place?
JW Marriott LA Live in Los Angeles on Oct 29-30, 2018.

What if I can't get travel budget from my employer?
